Nestled just 5 miles west of the charming town of Strathmore, California, there stood a little school with big dreams—Prairie Center. This quaint three-room schoolhouse, built in 1904, was the heartbeat of the community, guiding eager minds from kindergarten through 8th grade. But Prairie Center was more than just a place to learn the three R’s; it was a hands-on lesson in life, where local kids rolled up their sleeves and grew into farmers. In fact, they even nurtured a small vineyard in the back northwest corner of the school grounds.
Fast forward to today, and Prairie Center has returned to its roots—quite literally! The grounds are once again alive with a vibrant vineyard, now producing a stunning Cabernet Sauvignon. But that’s not all; an olive orchard has also taken root, offering a taste as deep and vibrant as the stories of those who once roamed these grounds.
